Medirigiriya DS division in Polonnaruwa District

Polonnaruwa District Swadeena Praja Mula Sansadaya was registered under the Voluntary Social Services Organizations Act No.31 of 1980,No. PodiLe/Aa8/6/66/005 dated 1.1.2002.


At present the following nine organizations are engaging in poverty 

reduction programmes in Polonnaruwa District. All the nine 

organizations in Polonnaruwa are engaged in poverty reduction 

programme.

       2. Hingurakgoda Gemi Sarana Maha Sangamaya

       3. Shrama Shakthi Samaja Sanwardena Padanama

       4. Sri Lanka Grameeya Sanwardena Padanama

       5. Ape Shakthi Kantha Sangamaya

       6. Sri Lanka Manawa Sanwardena Padanama

       7. Manawa Himikam Praja Adyapana Madyasthanaya

       8. Kumudu Prajamula Sanvidanaya

       9. Thirasara Sanvidanaya

Objectives

  • To assist the less privileged community in the district through the implementation of economic and social activities of the member organizations

  • To build capacity of the community based groups through experience exchange programmes

  • To address the community needs of the district

  • To exchange knowledge and resources among member organizations

  • To collect district data related to development programmes2

  • To enhance the links with the GO / NGO / donor agencies for development programmes

  • To prepare the necessary arrangements for marketing their products in the district

  • To make arrangements to implement the code of ethics for NGOs

Present Development Activities

  • Targeting and participant selection: identifying the poorest households, communicating the participant lists to stakeholders and enrolling the households in Graduation.

  • Social protection: linking to health, education, water, sanitation, social safety nets and child welfare services and facilities.

  • Consumption support: providing essential consumption support to enable participants to build up their household well-being and allow them to focus on acquiring new skills and livelihoods.

  • Livelihoods: selecting enterprises (or employment), providing training, transferring assets, developing market linkages, and providing ongoing support to build livelihoods 4

  • Savings and financial training: mobilizing participants in savings groups and improving household and enterprise financial practices and management.

  • Social integration: developing linkages between participants and the community, improving life-skills.

  • Coaching: providing guidance on all aspects of the Graduation programmer, empowering, and boosting confidence
