“HARVEST” HOME AGRICULTURE RESILIENCE, VIABLE ECOSYSTEMS AND SUSTAINABLE TRANSFORMATION FOR VULNERABLE HOUSEHOLDS IN UVA, SRI LANKA

HARVEST is a development initiative led by SLCDF and funded by KNH and BMZ to improve food security and household incomes in Badulla and Monaragala districts in Sri Lanka’s Uva Province. The project promotes sustainable agriculture, home gardening, and resilience-building through community-based self-help groups and the empowerment of women-led households.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

Primary

To sustainably improve the food security and income situation of vulnerable households in Uva Province.

Ms. Uta visited and observed home gardening activities
SHG members presented drawings of their home gardens
Demonstration of liquid fertilizer production
Awareness sessions

Target Groups

​Direct -

  • 1,200 women-headed households (600 in Badulla, 600 in Monaragala)

  • Approximately 6,000 individuals, including:

    • 2,400 children

    • 108 persons with disabilities (PWDs)

  • All direct beneficiaries are members of SHGs and CLA (Cluster-Level Association) networks.

Indirect - Around 3,600 additional households benefiting from shared knowledge, inputs, and improved community infrastructure.
