Project Achievements

HARVEST - Home agriculture resilience, viable ecosystems and sustainable transformation for vulnerable households in Uva, Sri Lanka

Building climate resilience and sustainable livelihoods for vulnerable households in Uva, Sri Lanka

Mobilizing Local Expertise:
We successfully recruited and onboarded 12 dedicated Barefoot Development Partners (BDPs), strategically distributing them evenly between the Badulla and Monaragala districts. These local leaders are the backbone of the program, ensuring consistent, relevant support at the village level.

Targeting Vulnerable Households:
We completed the selection process for the project's first phase, successfully identifying 600 vulnerable beneficiaries (300 in each district). This ensures our resources are directed toward households where the impact will be most profound.

Comprehensive Resilience Training:
We completed an intensive 14-day Training of Trainers (ToT) for BDPs, equipping them with expertise in climate-resilient agriculture, sustainable livestock farming, and crucial post-harvest handling techniques. This foundation ensures agricultural productivity is both high and durable.

Prioritizing Health Outcomes:
Following the technical training, we completed an additional 8-day ToT for BDPs focused specifically on nutrition, ensuring the benefits of increased production translate directly into improved health and family well-being.

Direct Capacity Building:
Our trained BDPs are now actively delivering comprehensive agriculture and nutrition training to all 600 first-phase beneficiaries. This direct investment builds their capacity for sustainable farming practices, paving the way for improved economic and health outcomes.
