Rajani’s Journey to Protect Her Children
Rajani, a 33-year-old single mother of four, was left to raise her children alone after her husband abandoned the family. Living in a small, unsafe house without electricity, she struggled to provide for her children while enduring harassment and violence from her ex-husband.

Her life began to change when the local Women’s Development Officer connected her with Let the Women Decide Their Destiny, an EU-funded initiative led by SLCDF and partners. Through the project, Rajani received not only emotional support but also the opportunity to build a safer livelihood. With guidance, she started a small mobile shop selling vegetables, fruits, and daily essentials—an income source that also allows her to stay closer to her children and keep them safe.
“For Rajani, a small shop became more than a livelihood — it became safety for her children, dignity for herself, and hope for their future.”
Today, Rajani is rebuilding her life with strength and dignity. She no longer feels helpless; instead, she has a way to provide for her family while ensuring her children’s safety and education. Her story is a testament to the project’s vision—empowering women to shape their own destinies and create a better tomorrow for their families.
