Overview

One Step Up – GTP is a community-based economic empowerment initiative funded by Palmera Australia and implemented by the Sri Lanka Centre for Development Facilitation (SLCDF).The project focuses on strengthening sustainable livelihoods and enhancing resilience among economically vulnerable families in the Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa district. By combining livelihood development, skills training, and market access facilitation, the project seeks to build long-term economic independence while advancing Gender Equality, Disability, and Social Inclusion (GEDSI).Through community participation and leadership development, One Step Up – GTP empowers marginalized groups to play an active role in local development processes.

Why This Makes a Difference

Rural families in the North Central Province face economic insecurity due to limited employment opportunities, low market connectivity, and vulnerability to climate and social shocks. This initiative addresses these challenges by equipping beneficiaries with practical skills, access to financial and market resources, and opportunities for entrepreneurship. By fostering inclusive governance and empowering women and persons with disabilities, the project promotes equitable and sustainable rural development.

Impact That Counts (By 2025)

  • Families Empowered: Vulnerable and marginalized households in Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa supported with sustainable livelihood opportunities

  • Skills Developed: Women, youth, and persons with disabilities trained in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and value addition

  • Gender & Inclusion Advanced: GEDSI principles mainstreamed into all activities, promoting equitable participation and representation

  • Community Resilience Built: Strengthened local governance and collective action for inclusive development

  • Market Linkages Established: Improved access to markets and income-generation opportunities for rural producers

To build resilient, inclusive, and self-reliant rural communities in the North Central Province by empowering families to achieve sustainable livelihoods and active participation in local development.
