Geographical Focus: Anuradhapura District – North Central Province, Sri Lanka
Overview
One Step Up – Telungu is a 12-month initiative implemented by the Sri Lanka Centre for Development Facilitation (SLCDF) in partnership with Palmera Australia. The project aims to strengthen the economic resilience and social inclusion of vulnerable Telungu-speaking communities, with a focus on women, persons with disabilities, and socially excluded groups. Through capacity building, access to financial services, and inclusive participation, the initiative promotes sustainable livelihoods, empowers marginalized groups, and fosters community development.
Why This Makes a Difference
Vulnerable communities in Anuradhapura face systemic barriers to economic participation, limited access to resources, and social exclusion. This project addresses these challenges by equipping women, persons with disabilities, and low-income households with the tools, knowledge, and networks needed to secure sustainable livelihoods. By fostering inclusive engagement and supporting equitable economic growth, One Step Up – Telungu contributes to stronger, more resilient communities.
Impact That Counts (By 2026)
Women Empowered: Women from socially excluded communities gain skills and resources to participate in livelihood opportunities
Inclusion Strengthened: Persons with disabilities and low-income households supported to engage in economic activities
Sustainable Livelihoods: Capacity building and financial access enable households to improve income and resilience
Community Engagement: Family members, CBOs, and local service providers benefit from inclusive participation and increased economic activity
To create resilient, economically empowered Telungu-speaking communities in Anuradhapura where women, persons with disabilities, and marginalized groups can actively participate in sustainable development and inclusive growth.
