LIFT

(Life Inspired for Today for Child Protection through Self Help Approach)
Donor: Kindernothilfe (Germany)
Duration: 5 years (April 2021 – March 2026)
Lead Partner: SLCDF
Geographical Focus: Mullaitivu & Kilinochchi Districts – Northern Province, Sri Lanka

Overview

The LIFT Project is a five-year initiative led by SLCDF with support from Kindernothilfe. Its focus is on safeguarding children in Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi by ensuring access to secondary education and protecting them from corporal punishment. Rooted in the Self Help Approach (SHA), the project strengthens community networks to create safe, nurturing environments for children.

Why This Makes a Difference

In post-conflict Northern Sri Lanka, children face challenges of interrupted education, poverty, and harmful disciplinary practices. The SHA approach empowers women’s groups and communities to collectively protect child rights and strengthen local accountability, ensuring no child is left behind.

Impact That Counts (By 2026)

Self Help Groups: 141 SHGs practicing the SHA model

Capacity Building: 07 tailored SHA training modules developed & in use

Accountability: 165 annual donor reports completed, tracking real progress

Community Mobilization: 3 major community-wide child protection programmes conducted
