Overview

Village to Markets Grow (V2M) is a long-term initiative funded by Palmera Australia and implemented by SLCDF in partnership with RDPO, OISD, and the Theravil Vulnerable Development Society. The project aims to promote a thriving local economy and supportive social systems in rural villages across three districts. Through targeted interventions, awareness campaigns, training programs, and capacity-building activities, V2M fosters sustainable livelihoods, community cohesion, and economic growth at the household and village level.

Why This Makes a Difference

Rural communities in the Eastern and Northern Provinces face challenges such as limited market access, low household incomes, and weak social support structures. By strengthening economic and social systems at the village level, the project enables households and communities to achieve better well-being, resilience, and self-sufficiency. The project integrates capacity development, market facilitation, and community engagement to ensure lasting improvements in both livelihoods and social cohesion.

Impact That Counts (By 2027)

  • Families Supported: 4,650 households directly benefit from livelihood and social interventions

  • Community Reach: Indirect benefits extend to the entire population in 12 GN Divisions

  • Economic Resilience: Increased household income and improved access to markets

  • Social Systems Strengthened: Enhanced community networks and support mechanisms for inclusive development

  • Sustainable Livelihoods: Capacity-building and training programs promote long-term economic growth

To create thriving rural villages with strong economic systems and supportive social networks, enabling households and communities in Eastern and Northern Sri Lanka to achieve sustainable well-being and inclusive development.
